Sean Hanna

Sean Hanna is Vice President of Veterans and Public Safety at the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute, where he works with national, state, and local decision-makers to close gaps in veteran mental health systems. His current work focuses on expanding early identification of veterans at risk of suicide and strengthening the pathways that connect them to timely support, building on the peer network infrastructure he helped pioneer in Texas. From 2014 to 2016, Sean served as Director of the Veterans Mental Health Program at the Texas Veterans Commission, where he directed the Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN), a statewide collaboration between the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Veterans Commission. He oversaw MVPN’s volunteer coordinators, training standards, and Military Cultural Competency curriculum for licensed mental health professionals and led its expansion into justice-involved veteran services across the state. He first helped build the MVPN model years earlier as State Coordinator at Samaritan Counseling Center, where he also directed the Hope for Heroes program serving Central Texas veterans. A US Navy veteran, Sean served nine years as a Hospital Corpsman, including a deployment with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and combat operations in Somalia. He is a licensed acupuncturist and Diplomate of Oriental Medicine and has applied that clinical background to veteran-focused integrative health programs throughout his career. Sean brings over a decade of experience designing, implementing, and scaling peer support infrastructure for veterans, and continues to work at the intersection of policy, systems design, and lived experience to help veterans get help before a crisis point.
