Our Answer

Sound Off is a mobile resource connecting Veterans and Service Members with anonymous, long-term mental health support.

Sound Off is the first and only mental health resource for Veterans and Service Members that allows both anonymity and repeat contact with clinicians or peers. All interactions between those seeking support and those offering it are contained entirely within the app.

How It Works:

We assign veterans and service members seeking support a pseudonym which allows them to maintain their anonymity

We pair our secure IT infrastructure with a network of volunteer clinicians and Veterans ready to offer support.

Calls are conducted via voip technology and messages are end-to-end encrypted meaning — no phone number required.

Video conferencing is intentionally excluded to ensure that Veterans and Service Members remain anonymous.

To register on the app, Veterans and Service Members seeking support only have to provide their state of residence, so they can be paired with a clinician licensed in their state. Then, they receive an anonymous, permanent username.

From there, they can establish a relationship with either a clinician or a screened, trained Battle Buddy.

After that, the Veteran/ Service Member and clinician or Battle Buddy set up times to connect, whether through messages or phone calls.

What Makes Us Different?

Sound Off is not a one-time crisis hotline. Instead, it offers Veterans and Service Members the chance to establish consistent, lasting relationships with clinicians or peers, granting them the same essential level of care available of traditional teletherapy platforms while addressing the primary barriers we know too often keep them from seeking help.

Security & Anonymity

The app is completely anonymous. The only registration information required from Veterans and Service Members is their state of residence, so they can be paired with a clinician in their state. Otherwise, all interactions between Veterans or Service Members and clinicians or Battle Buddies are end-to-encrypted and entirely anonymous.

By offering connections with clinicians and with Battle Buddies, we allow Veterans and Service Members to seek support they feel they can trust. They can receive professional guidance from a clinician or share their experiences with someone who has walked the same path they have- they can even choose to speak to a peer first, then transition to speaking with a professional.

Ease of Use

Sound Off’s registration is quick and easy— 30 seconds start to finish. The app is always free, and we do not discriminate against Veterans or Service Members based on their current status.

Sound Off’s only geographic restriction is that we need to comply with state laws regarding mental health care. We can potentially connect clinicians, Battle Buddies and Veterans and Service Members thousands of miles apart.
